Thirumal Kumar D is an Assistant Professor (Jr.) in School of Bio Sciences and Technology, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree from the same Institute since 2015. His research interests focus on the analysis of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs), Drug Designing and Drug Repurposing. The topic of his dissertation is “Computational profiling and discovery of new lead compounds targeting breast cancer-causing mutations of the genes in PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway”. Teaching is always fun and excited for him because it is an artistic interaction with bachelors and masters students. He has been teaching Bioinformatics, General Microbiology, and Enzymology laboratories. He was elected as a Fellow (FLS) of the oldest active biological society, The Linnean Society of London on 24th May 2018 and also was elected as Member (MRSB) by the Royal Society of Biology’s Council on 1 April 2018. He is a life member of The Indian Science Congress Association, India and member of the International Society for Computational Biology and International Chemical Biology Society. Recently, he received “Har Gobind Khorana Best Young Scientist Award” from “Bose Scientific Society under Tamil Nadu Scientific Research Organization (TNSRO)” and “Distinguished Researcher Award’18” from “International Journal for Research Under Literal Access (IJRULA).” He has also received Best Young Scientist National Award from the Innovative Research Developers and Publishers (IRDP) Group of Journals for his outstanding excellence and remarkable achievements in the field of Teaching, Research, and Publications. Previously, he has also received VIT research award for consecutive three years (2015, 2016, and 2017) from the year he enrolled in Ph.D. He completed his Masters in Biotechnology from Vellore Institute of Technology in the year 2015. Currently, he has published more than 40 papers in the International peer-reviewed journals with cumulative impact factor more than 110 and citations more than 275 as on end of the year 2018.
